The footbridge at Little Langdale is now replaced.

On September 18th I reported that the footbridge at Little Langdale was closed.
Having been past there tonight, I was impressed to find a brand new timber footbridge there. Well done Cumbria County Council. Double plus good.
A learned friend and biker informs me that the bridge is almost certainly made of Kwila.
He describes Kwila as very hard, and difficult to machine as it contains a natural abrasive which blunts tools very quickly. The bridge doesn’t seem to have a sub-structure, but appears to be entirely timber and self-supporting. It also lacks a central pier, as it is only supported at each end.
